Lemonade

You probably thought this was going to be another food simile entry. Not so fast grasshopper. I thought I’d take a minute to reflect on that adage about turning lemons into lemonade.

By all accounts, the upcoming year is going to be a tough one financially…for everyone. But there’s always a silver lining to difficult situations. For musicians, it may be to put out a recording in a year that many other musicians won’t, in which you will stand out because there’s less competition.

That may sound like a silly concept, but in a world where people are constantly inundated with media there is a point where consumers just don’t have the bandwidth for anything new…no matter how good it is. Putting out an album in a time when other bands aren’t could be a great strategic move.

Sitting in a History class one year in college, it was explained to me that the reason why we speak English has as much to do with the weather as anything. Many battles through history, though exquisitely planned, came down to the weather on the day of reckoning.

Timing is everything.
