Lessons of a Good Album

In the era of singles downloaded through iTunes, many people speculate that the traditional album format is dead. But from a recent 60 Minutes segment on Coldplay, it’s apparent some of the world’s best bands still think in long-form conceptual formats. And people like it enough to buy 7 million copies.

I have been checking out the Red Hot Chili Peppers By The Way for the past few weeks, and it reminds me how good the band is. Prior to getting the album, I only heard By the Way, Zephyr Song, Dosed, and Can’t Stop on radio stations. Listening to the whole album I not only get to hear 12 other amazing songs (Warm Tape is my current fav), but appreciate how the band sutured the album together to make something greater than the individual songs.
