Thoughts on the world of audio recording, mixing, and mastering.

ZenMastering’s Advice is Free

Posted on | February 24, 2009 | No Comments

I need to call a plumber today to come look at a potentially serious problem at my house. Turns out it was nothing. But the service call cost me $120!

It made me realize that I give free advice to people every day. Don’t worry, I’m not about to start charging for advice. If I have time to give it, it’s free. It just made me realize that what I (and a lot of “independent” audio professionals offer) is a fantastically good deal when you consider what is delivered.

Mastering has sort of taken it on the chin over the past 10 years, as tons of amateurs, offering $10-a-song mastering (that’s not much more than making it loud), have cropped up. But I’ve always believed that quality wins out in the end. Sometimes you just have to weather the storm.
