Prickly Epiphany, Part 2

Posted on | February 27, 2009 | No Comments

So two days after my initial Prickly Epiphany, I was back on the acupuncturist’s table and had another thought. Although it seems like the world is insane b/c of all the lunatic nutheads doing all sorts of crazy stuff, I wonder if this is just the natural order of things (in degrees, of course).

Here’s a musical analogy: Think of what harmony is. It the balance of tones that turn scales into chords. And augmented fourths/ diminished fifths and minor sevenths are just as important as major thirds, perfect fourths, and perfect fifths.

If all you have is consonance, your harmony is incomplete. What makes a consonant sound so good is the fact that it came from a dissonance. It doesn’t always have to be diabolis in musica, but you need both for an interesting piece of music.

I guess is the same with life. You have to strive to land on a resolution when you end a piece.
