Tidbits on Acoustics

Posted on | May 16, 2009 | No Comments

I see a lot of photos online of studios that have recording rooms or console room where the walls are just covered in acoustic foam. This stuff isn’t really effective in blanketing your studio, other than soaking up high end and kind of deadening your space.

If you have acoustic issues with your room — and 98% if the audio world does — you need to deal with them professionally, not just slapping up foam or egg crates. That means consulting with an acoustician.

The acoustic panels I have @ ZenMastering were designed by George Augspurger, a world-renowned acoustician, and are the size of walls…weighing over 100lbs each. Compare that to foam that comes in a box and you start to realize what’s required for real, effective acoustic treatment.
