Tradeshow Tips

I spoke on the Music Industry 101 panel for North Park Music Thing yesterday. This was my second year on the panel and it, once again, a positive experience.

Having a bit of deja vu from last year, it made me think of a few tips to remember when being involved in a trade show.

  • Show up early. Once these things get going, it’s hard to jump off the train for a pit stop. My panel was at 11 a.m. and I arrived @ 10, checked in and found the bathroom. Smart move.
  • Network with people you’ve been wanting to meet. There were some clients I’d done work for but never met, so I took the opportunity to introduce myself. Though we live in an electronic world, face-to-face communication still goes a long way.
  • Be courteous to people on the other side of the table. Although many things in audio are obvious to me, they can be mysterious to people who are coming to the panel discussions. No matter how simple the question, answer it politely and honestly.
