From Ohm to Om — The ZenMastering Blog

Thoughts on the world of audio recording, mixing, and mastering.

Competition and Compromise

Posted on | October 13, 2009 | No Comments

I did a mastering sample for a potential client recently. Cool stuff…sort of JET meets Green Day. What I didn’t know (which I never know…or ever think about) is that he was getting samples from two other mastering studios in San Diego. Well, one recording studio that does mastering and another actual mastering studio.

He called today to say that he liked ZenMastering’s work the best, but the recording studio quoted him a lower price. I told him I’d meet him in the middle and we agreed to work together.

I was flattered he liked ZenMasteirng’s sample the best, but not surprised. I mean, that’s what I specialize in and I’d hope I can turn out a product better than the competition.

I would have preferred not to compromise on what I consider are ZenMastering’s already reasonable rates, but in today’s business climate I am realistic. It just makes me happy that I won the client’s trust and business.
